Manna Monday | your true purpose

· 04:30

Dr. Barrett:

Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is? I don't know. It's a question that was actually asked of me recently with a patient in the office. They said, "Hey, Dr. Barrett, what is your purpose?"

Dr. Barrett:

How'd you find your purpose?" And you could tell she's in this season of asking questions that are bigger than just the natural world, right? And so we started having this conversation and it raised a really good question. I think at times in our life we can ask this beautiful question, What's my purpose? And maybe that comes out of a place of not feeling satisfied or not being fulfilled or feeling like there's more.

Dr. Barrett:

But today on Manna Monday, I would like to give you your purpose. I'm gonna speak right to it and speak clearly. If you're having an issue of of wrestling with your purpose, here is your purpose. I'm give you six things. This is your purpose.

Dr. Barrett:

And the first purpose of who you are, who you were designed for, what you were designed for, you were created for God's glory. In Isaiah 43:7 it says that everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made. Your ultimate purpose is to glorify God. It is to give God glory. Number two, it's to know and to love God.

Dr. Barrett:

Matthew 22:37-38 says, "love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." Life's purpose begins with a relationship with God, rooted in trust and in love. When you think about our purpose, it's not only to glorify God, but it's to know him and to love him. And then out of that, you are so fulfilled that you can move on to number three, which is to love others.

Dr. Barrett:

It's the second greatest commandment. So Matthew 22 verse 39 says, and the second is like it. It's to love your neighbor as yourself from the place of fulfillment in your purpose as glorifying God to know God, to love God, then we can love others. Number four, you were to be transformed and reflect the image of who Christ is. Romans 8:28 says that we are called according to his purpose, but to be conformed in the image of his son.

Dr. Barrett:

Did you know that you are designed by God to reflect the ultimate image of who he is? That is your design. That is your purpose, is to be transformed by his spirit, to reflect Christ, to literally be Christ on earth. It's wild and powerful to think through how God designed human beings. Your fifth purpose is to do good works.

Dr. Barrett:

Ephesians 2:10, "for we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works." And number six, it's to share the good news of Jesus. Matthew 28:19-20; It is to go and make disciples of every nation. If you're struggling or wondering what's your purpose, that is your purpose.

Dr. Barrett:

The ultimate purpose. The fulfilling purpose. The satisfying purpose. Don't look to work. Work is what you may do.

Dr. Barrett:

It is not who you are. You are, first and foremost, a child of God designed to be an image bearer of Christ and to do good works and to love people and to love God. That is your purpose. I pray that blesses you today. I pray that gives you satisfaction through the week, and thanks for listening to today's episode.
