Dr. Barrett:

Well, good morning, listeners. It's Monday. Welcome to our new Manna Monday series. And the intention of this series is under five minutes, we wanna give you a thought for the week. So when thinking about your health, a lot of times we're sharing practical health advice that you can apply immediately and start seeing a shift in your physical body.

Dr. Barrett:

But the intent of Mondays is gonna give you just a little piece of wisdom for the week, that applies more to the mind and to the spirit. And so when I started this health journey, you know, early on, the question I would ask is why am I doing this? And a lot of times at seminars and workshops, I'll tell patients that you have to have a bigger why than yourself. Your why has to be bigger than you. Okay?

Dr. Barrett:

So why are you making a health change? If you're doing it just for aesthetics or if you're doing it just for the looks of things, typically that's what we would be- typically it's just vanity. It's fleeting. It's not long lasting, and so your why's gotta be bigger. So I talk about my why being generational, that my why is that I wanna be here for my next child's generation, and that generation, and then that generation, and raise them, and share wisdom in their life and be there and set the example for future generations ahead.

Dr. Barrett:

You know, that's my why. I wanna live a life in the triple digits where it's full of life and energy. And so those are my desires. But I think easily what we can find is that, we may make everything, which I like to do, everything about me. I like to make everything about me.

Dr. Barrett:

So why am I making this health change? Well, it's about me. It's about what I want. And so there's a scripture in Psalms 127 verse 1. It's one of my favorite scriptures, and I pray it would bless you this week.

Dr. Barrett:

127 verse 1 in the Psalms says, "unless the Lord builds the house, those who labor do in vanity." And the idea of this scripture for me is that if I'm thinking about building this physical body and spiritual body, my mind, if I'm doing it for me, it's in vanity. But if I'm doing it to steward over what God's given me, then I believe He will give me grace and peace and joy in the midst of change. Because I think it's easy to get anxious and nervous and, I guess even question why you're doing what you're doing. And so the questions I would have for you this week as you're, driving this week, as you're sitting, as you're praying, as you're processing: why are you making the decisions you're making in your healthcare journey?

Dr. Barrett:

What's your why? And for me it goes back to Psalms 127 verse 1. "Unless the Lord builds a house, those who labor do in vain." So everything I do is to honor God, to please God, and to be a blessing to people in my life, to add value to God's kingdom by adding value to the people around me. And what better way to add value to people's life than doing it in a healthy state?

Dr. Barrett:

Healthy mind, healthy body, and a healthy spirit. So this week, ponder 127- Psalms 127 verse 1, unless the Lord builds the house, those who labor do in vain. And ask yourself, why? Why am I making the decisions that I'm making today? Thanks for listening to a Monday morning episode of Manna Monday.
