A verse I've been processing lately is Galatians 6:2, and it's "carry each other's burdens." Carry each other's burdens. It says that this is the way you fulfill the law of Christ. But the first part, carry each other's burdens. And so, this world has a way of just breaking you down.
Dr. Barrett:Right? It's hard. Life can be hard. And everyone's in a different spot. There's really two people when you talk about burdens.
Dr. Barrett:One, you might be the person that just feels like super heavy with burdens, And two, you may be the one who's not really carrying a ton right now, but you see some people around you that have some pretty heavy burdens. And so in this world, what do we do with the heaviness of it all? And really what I wanna speak to is to give you maybe some hope for this week on carrying each other's burdens. I think we are called to be a burden carrier. We are called to walk with people.
Dr. Barrett:And we know that two are better than one. Ecclesiastes shares with us that two are better than one, and a three cord strand is not easily broken. There's something beautiful, and when we come together and share the burden of the moment, the issue, there's something beautiful where healing can happen. This requires two things, it requires you to be vulnerable to ask people truly how they are and pressing on it. It requires community and relationship.
Dr. Barrett:And then it requires humility and openness on the other person. A lot of times I think it's easy to say, "hey, I'm good," but in order to heal, we have to bring whatever's in the dark and bring it to light. We can't heal what we don't share. If we're hiding, if we're not sharing, I really just don't think we can be healed. By confession, we're healed.
Dr. Barrett:And so first off, if someone's asking you how you are and you are not well and you trust that person, be honest and vulnerable and tell them exactly how you're doing. The second is ask deeper questions. Sometimes it requires you to press in a little bit harder people that you're just discerning. "Hey, they're not well. And so I'm gonna ask deeper, more robust questions.
Dr. Barrett:There is power in confession and community. James 5:16 says to "confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed." Healing is not just vertical, it's also horizontal. We don't just get healing from God Himself, we get healing from other people. And this horizontal healings that God uses His people to bring restoration.
Dr. Barrett:And one of the most important things is that as we look to carry the burdens of others, that our job is just to point people back to Christ. That they are not victims, they're victors, and that in Christ, they're fulfilled. Everything, everything is fulfilled in Christ. They are fully satisfied. Matthew 11:28 says, "come to me all who are heavy laden or weary or burdened, and I will give you rest."
Dr. Barrett:That's Matthew 11:28 says. He'll give us rest when we come to Him. So our job this week, our job this week is to help people get back into the rightful relationship of resting in Christ, that their burdens would be light, and the yoke would be easy. It says that the anointing of God breaks the yoke and lifts the burden. And so I would do encourage you this week.
Dr. Barrett:It's not about you. It's about others. Reach out to people around you no matter how broken or heavy burdened you are. And I think when we see less of ourselves focus less on ourselves, and focus more on others, that we can truly bring healing, not to just them, but to us as well.
